Girls Night Out...minus the scandals we used to get ourselves into

This past weekend I had the chance to spend some time out with my girlfriends. A good majority of my Tri-Delta friends were all in Chicago to celebrate my friend Staci's baby shower. So we made an evening out of it and went out for dinner and drinks (only water and kiddie cocktails for me)! The majority of the girls live in Chicago, but my friend Monica made the trip in from Washington state and then my friend Jill made the trip up from Indy. Our gatherings are probably just as loud as they used to be, but we are slightly more mature and our discussions now revolve around husbands/boys, houses, babies and of course clothes!

Below you can see why our conversations revolve around babies. Of the 13 of us at dinner...5 of us were PG. We are standing in order of due date. (L to R, Leslie due 12/5, me due 9/14, Monica due 9/14, Staci due 8/22 and Ami due 7/16).

I spent the night at my friend Katie's which was super fun because I woke up to this smiling little boy on Sunday. This little man is 6 months old and is still pint size, but his smiles and squeals of excitement are anything but pint size! Here are some of my favorites from our mini photo shoot!

Finally, the main event, Staci & Jason's baby shower. We had a great lunch with good company and watched these two tear through tons of baby gifts... I was trying to take notes on what all this stuff is for...hopefully I'll figure it out within the next 10 weeks!!

Pregnancy and Diet

This week marked the 28 week point for baby Funk! We are so excited and hope the next 12 weeks fly by! At this point in the pregnancy it's procedure to run a glucose screening test to check for gestational diabetes. This test consists of drinking a sugar controlled substance, which tastes like double sweet, flat, orange soda. Normally I like sweets, but my teeth were hurting after this drink. Anyways, after an hour, they take some blood and tests my blood sugar levels. Well...I FAILED :(

What does this mean...well I have to go on a controlled diet to limit my calories to 2000 per day and then make sure I eat enough fruit, veggies, proteins, milk and starches. Then I'll go to the hospital for another test called the glucose tolerance test, which is similar except they will take my blood three times over the course of three hours. If I pass that test, then I don't have gestational diabetes. If I fail that test...then I do have gestational diabetes and the doctor will take more precautions for me and the babe.

So, I'm pregnant and I have to go on a diet for the next 7-10 days. Ummm hello...pregnancy and diet are two words that should not be in the same sentence! Seriously, I found myself looking at all the food labels today and thinking, I don't even remember what this stuff means. I know I've sort of been abusing my pregnancy privileges, but doesn't everyone? At what other point in your life can you justify more than one donut a sitting or ice cream every night?? I wonder if Dunkin Donuts will start to worry about me since I can't frequent them anymore?! Overall, I'm not too worried as my blood sugar levels were just slightly elevated, but still...dieting for 7 - 10 days while growing a human being...NOT COOL!

Other than that, I feel great and baby Funk is just jumping around enjoying the space in my belly while she/he has it. After this point, the baby is going to start running out of space to jump, dance, kick...or whatever the heck else this little being thinks it's doing!

Here is my belly picture...the good thing is that I'm growing straight out (I think) which hopefully means I'll fit into my old clothes again someday. The bad news is that I'm growing straight out and it totally looks like I'm having more than one child. Plus, getting up and down from the bed, couch, floor is next to impossible...as is bending over. We will see how much longer I can continue to do household chores :)

Awkward

Here is my 26 week photo...I don't know what else to say... Apparently when you are short the baby just grows straight out, which is really awkward!

Does anyone have good advice on how to make a baby come early?

Gateway to the West

This past weekend we went down to Saint Louis to go to a Cardinals game with friends. While we were in the area we had the chance to have lunch with my friend Angela and her enthusiastic little girl A. Wow, this nine month old little lady was so much fun. She had a great personality and a fun little laugh. Ben and I both agreed we want one just like that :)

Ahead of time I warned Angela that I was bringing my camera and that I wanted a fun little subject (other than my cat)...so I had A's attention for a little while and caught some cute pictures.

Check out those eye lashes...and can you see the 8 teeth!

SOOOO BIG!!!

Did I mention how enthusiastic she was???

Next we were off to the Cardinals vs the Colorado Rockies. The good news is that we had great weather and a lot of fun, the bad news is that the Cardinals lost. Thanks to my friend Monica for the clever idea for maternity attire at a baseball game!

Thanks to Scott and Dana for such a fun weekend. We had a great time and baby Funk is going to love their new Cardinals t-shirt! Dana - do you want to make a bet that Ben dresses the baby in that shirt within the first month??

Wonder

I frequently find myself wondering what baby Funk is going to look like...besides the big mystery of whether we are going to have a girl or a boy...

I wonder if the baby will be tall or short? Seriously, I'm 5'2" and Ben is 6'1"...what do you think?

I wonder if the baby will have blue eyes? If both Ben and I have blue eyes, does that automatically mean the baby will too?

I wonder if the baby will have the Funk nose? It's really not a big nose, but Ben makes such a BIG deal about it, so I have to wonder.

I wonder if the baby will have Ben's dark skin tone or my fair/freckled skin tone?

And I really wonder if I'll have a little red head?? My Mom and Dad always told me that I got my red hair from the "milk man" because no one in our family had distinguishably red hair...and it is one of those traits that has to come from both sides!

I really started to wonder about the red hair after a recent visit to see my friend Shanna and her adorable little man T last week. This little guy is about five months old and he has the cutest little red head mohawk! Have you ever seen anything more precious than this??

Back in college, Shanna and I would always get comments from strangers saying "Are you twins"? So I wonder if we might have babies that look like twins too?! What do you think?

We don't look that much like twins, do we??
